Today's challenge is more difficult than I expected. Writing a letter to the President without mentioning politics is like writing a letter to Santa Claus without making a wish list. Is it even possible?
Dear Mr. President:
You don't know me. (Do you?) As far as I know, we've never met and I doubt we ever will. Most people, I suppose, ask you things concerning your qualifications, experience, personal views and beliefs. But I have other curiosities.
What is your favorite color? What is your favorite childhood memory? When you were a kid, did you ever think you'd be President of the United States? How does anyone actually realize that Presidency is a personal goal? Do you watch movies often? What types of movies do you prefer? (Please don't say 'documentaries.') Was your wedding day the happiest day of your life? How did you feel when you became a dad? Was it better than being voted President? I assume someone cleans and maintains the White House for you, but do you ever do any of it yourself? Vacuum? Laundry? Do you ever cook dinner for your family? Do you prefer dogs or cats? What is your favorite vacation spot? And why? Other than being President, what are your hobbies?
I ask these seemingly silly questions because your answers will explain a lot about who you are on a human level. I appreciate more than anything being able to connect with someone in a personal way rather than a speaking to a title. So, Mr. President, although I greatly respect your position in our awesome country, it would be nice to know YOU.
